University lecturers came to the RBZ am Königsweg on 25 and 29 April
In two lectures by Prof Dr Peifer (Institute of Pharmacy) and Prof Dr Rose-John (Institute of Biochemistry), classes from our vocational grammar school learnt a lot about the world of science as part of their health lessons.
Prof Peifer taught us interesting facts about psychoactive plants, fungi and animals.
‘I really liked the fact that last week he showed us the different chemical compositions of drugs and how this was actually intended for medicine.’ (Anna)
Here, for example, we learnt how drugs work in the brain and what risks can be associated with their use. A discussion about the current legislation in connection with cannabis naturally followed.
Prof Rose-John informed us about the mechanisms of inflammation and therapeutic concepts, particularly in the treatment of autoimmune diseases. It became clear how our immune system works and how science works to understand and learn to speak the language of the immune system in order to constantly discover new therapeutic approaches and achieve impressive treatment successes, e.g. in bowel inflammation or autoimmune diseases of the nervous system (myasthenia gravis).
‘Yesterday I liked the fact that he was enthusiastic about his work and that you could really feel it. He gave us the feeling that just because something can't be cured today, that doesn't mean it can never be cured. That gives us hope for the future.’ (Anna)
