The training to become a state-certified care assistant at the vocational school specializing in social services is designed to enable students to provide support in assistance, care and domestic work fields. They assist the respective specialists at the facilities and can carry out the tasks assigned to them in a professional manner. They may be employed in hospitals, inpatient and outpatient care and nursing facilities for the elderly, rehabilitation facilities, psychiatric institutions, facilities for the disabled and private households. The practical periods are held in dual form (e.g. 3 school days/2 practical days per week) or a block over several weeks. The general school holidays are also used for the practical blocks. The training comprises two school years. By passing the state final examination, students acquire the right to use the professional title "Staatlich geprüfte Pflegeassistentin"/"Staatlich geprüfter Pflegeassistent". The vocational qualification certificate also certifies that the qualification has been acquired in accordance with the guidelines under Section 53c SGB XI (Social Code XI) as an additional caregiver in inpatient care facilities.
